What should I do if I experience or witness a sanitary sewer back-up or problem?

The city owns, operates and maintains the sanitary sewer system in the residential and business areas of Inverness, Riverchase and Southlake. If you experience a sewer backup or witness a sanitary sewer overflow you can report a sewer problem to the city by contacting our non-emergency dispatch office at (205) 822-5300.  The non-emergency contact office is available 24 hours for emergency and after hours services.  You can also download the MyHooverConnect app.  It is available on Apple/Android devices to report any sewer problems to the city.  Many homeowners / business owners are not aware that they are responsible for the sanitary sewer service line from their home or business to the main sewer. Any cleaning or repairs that need to be done to the service line are their responsibility. The city will provide assistance to you and/or your plumber to verify that the main sewer line is not obstructed. Should it be determined that main sewer line is obstructed, the city will take the necessary actions to alleviate the problem.
