When: Saturday - April 23, 2011

Hours: 8 AM until Noon

Where: Regions Park Stadium - Parking Lot

Who Can Participate:  City of Hoover (Households) ONLY

PROOF OF RESIDENCE WILL BE REQUIRED

(Businesses and contractors are not included in this event)

Household Hazardous Waste Day provides an opportunity for Hoover residents to properly dispose of the items listed below.

PARTICIPATING VENDORS: Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Advanced Disposal Service, B & B Tire Landfills., NAPA Auto Parts, City of Hoover Fleet Department (used motor oil collection), City of Hoover G2O (waste cooking oil) and The Foundry Rescue Mission and Recovery Center

HHWD TEAM includes employees from Public Works, Park Maintenance, Risk Management, Operations Support, Human Resources, Fleet Management, Hoover Bomb Unit, Hoover Fire Department, Hoover Beautification Board, Hoover Chamber of Commerce and our Hoover City Council and Mayor Petelos

DANGER - USE EXTREME CAUTION

When transporting your hazardous waste:

Do not mix wastes

Make sure that the contents of the container are the same as stated on the label

Make sure that the containers are safely secured in your vehicle

Make sure that the containers are not leaking

 

ITEMS ACCEPTED BY THE HOOVER BOMB UNIT:

  • Fireworks/Pyrotechnics/Flares
  • Gun Powders
  • Military Ordnance/Relics/Souvenirs
  • Ammunition
  • Explosives & Explosive materials
  • Reloading Supplies
  • Firearms
  • Edged Weapons
  • Prescription Medications
  • Non Prescription Drugs

 

ACCEPTED ITEMS AT THIS EVENT:

  • Aerosol
  • Automotive Fluids (motor oil, antifreeze, gas and/or mixed gas)
  • Batteries (car & alkaline)
  • Caulk/glue
  • Chemical drain cleaner
  • Fluorescent Light Bulbs
  • Household Cleaners
  • Paint and Paint thinner (Please Note: Empty paint containers OR hardened solid paint is safe to put in the regular garbage. You can bring the liquid to a solid by mixing the paint with cat litter or sawdust. Please remove the lid before putting it in your trash bin.)
  • Pesticides and Herbicides
  • Polish (auto & furniture)
  • Solvents
  • Stains/Varnish
  • Standard Vehicle Tires (No commercial or heavy equipment tires will be accepted)
  • Preservatives
  • Waste Cooking Oil

 

 

 

NEW THIS YEAR.....WE WILL BE ACCEPTING FLAGS If you have old flags which need to be discarded, bring them to this event. We will turn them over to the Boy Scouts for proper disposal.

 

 

 

ELECTRONIC ITEMS ACCEPTED - The Foundry Rescue MIssion and Recovery Center is teaming up with us again his year to refurbish and/or reuse the following items. Items which are not usable will be sent to the recycling center for disposal.

  • Keyboards
  • Mouse
  • Cables-Wiring
  • Power Supplies
  • Televisions
  • Radios/Stereos
  • Telephones

 

ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED AT THIS EVENT

  • Refrigerators/Freezers
  • Stoves
  • Microwaves
  • Toasters/toaster ovens
  • Coffee makers
  • Mercury
  • Propane or canisters (large or small)
  • Lawn equipment (weed eaters, mower)
  • Medical Waste (Syringes) Put syringes in a milk jug, secure the lid on with tape and put in your regular garbage bin.
  • Radioactive Material (of any kind)
  • Asbestos
  • PCB
  • Unidentified Materials & Containers
