Below is a summary of services that the City of Hoover offers to residents and businesses. Click on the links to navigate to the responsible department's website to learn more about the services they provide.

Building Developments & Permits
A permit is required for any new construction or any additions to existing structures that costs $1,000 or more, or for work that requires an inspection. This includes work performed by the homeowner or business owner. The City of Hoover Inspections Department is responsible for issuing permits, performing inspections, and enforcing zoning & building codes.

The Engineering Department is responsible for reviewing plans submitted by developers as they relate to water, sewer, storm drainage, streets, tree conservation, landscaping, and buffers to ensure that all developments are in compliance with City Codes, Ordinances and regulations.

Business Licenses
All persons, firms, corporations or businesses located inside the City of Hoover, or outside the City but conducting a trade, business, commerce, occupation, profession, exhibition, vocation or performing services in the city are required to purchase a business license prior to beginning operations. This requirement applies to all businesses, whether profit, non-profit, or home based. Business licenses are issued by the Revenue Department of the City of Hoover. You may renew your business license online by visiting our e-gov center.

Trash & Recycling Services
The City of Hoover provides curbside garbage, trash, and recyclable products pickup service to all homes within the city limits at no charge. Arrow Disposal Service is currently the City of Hoover's garbage collection service provider. Collection is also provided for leaf & pine straw during the fall & spring months. For disposal of hazardous or environmentally sensitive material, the City hosts an annual Hazardous Waste Day each April. For more information, please contact our Public Works Department.

Public Roadways, Right-of-Ways, and Traffic Signs
Within the Hoover city limits, the Hoover Public Works Department maintains all standard roadway signs along public roadways that are not maintained by Jefferson County, Shelby County, or the Alabama Department of Transportation. Please visit their site for detailed information.

Action Center
The Action Center is an online form that can be used to contact City Hall with any concern or comment. The form is anonymous, but you must leave contact information if you want us to get in touch with you to discuss your situation.

Public Safety Services
Several safety education classes are offered through our Fire Department such as CPR, Car Safety Seat Installations, Fire Safety, etc. The Hoover Police Department offers Fingerprinting Services, a Ride-Along program, and other programs. Our Department of Homeland Security offers CERT classes, an emergency-preparedness community program.

Pets & Wild Animals
The City of Hoover's Animal Control Department enforces the city's animal control ordinances and provides related information and support to the citizens of Hoover. The City of Hoover does not provide animals for adoptions or routinely pick up wild animals.
