HOOVER RECREATION CENTER NURSERY

"Our Promise to You”

While you enjoy the programs through the City of Hoover Parks and Recreation Department, we promise to provide a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for your child.

Our nursery is staffed with mature sitters who are trained in first aid and CPR certified and are ready to greet your child with a smile.  Nursery services are available to parents engaged in activities at the Hoover Recreation Center.

Childcare is provided for ages one to five years for up to 90 minutes. Six year olds and up may utilize the game room adjacent to the Welcome Center during designated hours.  Click on the Game Room link for more details.

Two staff members are on duty at all times, but space is limited and is on a first come/first serve basis.  The nursery capacity is 20 children and this number may not be exceeded.  An outdoor playground is located adjacent to the nursery.

Children ages 6 weeks to one year require a reservation.  To provide all parents of infants the same opportunity to utilize the nursery service, parents may have one active reservation at a time.  Infant stays are limited to one hour.

To contact the Hoover Recreation Center Nursery Staff directly, please call 444-7784

Children's Footwear Requirements

As a risk management request, children MUST wear shoes of some type to protect their toes. (This doesn’t include infants).

Snacks

Children with snacks must sit at the table when eating/drinking.  Snacks that are permitted are DRY CEREAL or ANIMAL CRACKERS.  Only clear liquids are permitted in NON-SPILL juice cups. If the container is not spill proof, only water is permitted.  Exception: formula/breast milk for infants.  (NO doughnuts, gum, hard-boiled eggs, chocolate or other candies, sandwiches, etc. to help keep our Nursery carpet clean!)

Sick Child Policy

This is a WELL NURSERY. If a Nursery Attendant suspects a child doesn’t feel well, the attendant will not allow the parent to drop off their child.  If during the child’s stay, they suspect a child doesn’t feel well, the parent will be paged to care for their child and remove them from possibly exposing others.   Children with fever, colored mucus, symptoms of pink-eye, stomach upset or loose stool within 24 hours, etc. are NOT allowed in the Nursery until they are symptom free.  Parent may be asked to provide doctor’s excuse from the child’s pediatrician excuse if Nursery attendant has any concerns.   Note: Please don’t take this personally if you are asked to remove your child, but this is a safety precaution to help keep the other children and staff healthy. When in doubt, realize that the attendants will err on the side of caution if we SUSPECT illness.

Potty Training Kids

Children that are potty training MUST wear Pull-Ups while in the Nursery until they are fully potty trained.  You are asked to take your child to the restroom prior to using the Nursery.

Child Behavior Guidelines

If child is not content after 10 minutes with the Nursery Attendant consoling the child,  the parent will be paged to tend to his/her child.

We will be adding new items over the next few weeks, so we aren’t finished yet!

Verbal Warnings will be used first and will consist of a simple statement of the rules and redirection to a more appropriate activity.

Time Out is for second address of behavior and will last no longer than the same number of minutes as the child's age and will occur in an area which can be supervised.  If there are more than 2 time-outs in one session, parent will be notified to help work on this problem with the child.

Day Probation is for the third address if child is putting other children at risk

(examples: biting, hitting, kicking, foul language, excessively rowdy, etc.), the parent will be paged immediately to tend to their child. He/she must remain under the parent's direct supervision and may not be brought back to the Nursery for the duration of that day's events.

Continued Probation - If discipline problems become habitual, child will be prohibited use of the Nursery for a minimum of 3 days the week of the occurrence depending on degree of discipline problem.  Parent will be asked to set up a meeting with Nursery Supervisor, Nursery Attendant and Center Director to determine course of action that would need to be taken at that time.
