Components of Health and Fitness Assessment

If you sign up for 12 or more personal training sessions, a free fitness assessment will be performed before the first and after the last session.  Fitness assessment is a great tool for determining your current fitness level. By identifying your strengths and weaknesses, a trainer can better determine what areas to focus on.

Health History Questionnaire- Basic medical history allows for identification of cardiovascular risk factors and other special needs.

Vital Signs- Resting heart rate and blood pressure

Cardiovascular endurance- A 3 minute step test will be performed in order to estimate cardiovascular endurance

Body Composition- Body fat measurements utilize skin folds. Body fatness is a great determinant for a person’s risk of developing chronic diseases such as obesity, hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and coronary heart disease.

Muscular Endurance

    • Sit-ups- Poor abdominal strength and endurance is thought to contribute to muscular low back pain
    • Pushups- Upper body strength and endurance is a good indicator of overall muscular fitness.

Flexibility- Flexibility is measured by a sit and reach test. Flexibility of the hamstrings is a good indicator of the risk for current or future low back pain.

Scheduling a Health/Fitness Assessment

How do I prepare?
For best results of your body composition, do no exercise the day before or the day of the Fitness Assessment.

How do I Schedule?
To schedule your Health/Fitness Assessment, please contact the Fitness Staff at 444-7752 or fosterj@ci.hoover.al.us.  Assessments will take approximately 30-40 minutes, and your paperwork must be completed prior to your appointment.

Why should I sign up and what is the purpose?
A Health/ Fitness Assessment is a great tool for determining your current fitness level. Fitness Assessments will identify your strengths and weaknesses, helping you to determine what areas of fitness need to be your focus. Knowing your current fitness level will help you track your progress, keep you motivated, and hold you accountable to your exercise plan.
