HOOVER NEW HORIZONS Mission Statement:
The mission of the Hoover New Horizons is to enhance the quality of life of the senior citizens of the City of Hoover by providing opportunities for involvement in social, recreation and service activities, and to support the development of projects within the City.

HOOVER NEW HORIZONS Membership:
Hoover New Horizons Members must be Hoover Residents and age 55 and older.  To join the Hoover Senior Center they purchase a
$10.00/person per year membership fee which provides access to the activities of the Hoover Senior Center and general useage of the Hoover Recreation Center.  Additional fees may apply for special activities and or events.

Senior
Exercise:

Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 10:30 AM (Beginners) 
Monday & Fridays at 9:00 AM & Wednesdays at 12:15 PM (Intermediate)

Lunch Bunch:The 2nd Thursday of every month, an outing to a selected restaurant in the area.  Transportation is provided by the Hoover Senior Center for the first 12 people to register (reservation needed if riding the van).  Anyone wishing to follow in their own vehicle are welcome, however, a reservation will still be needed.   
Luncheons: Held the 4th Tuesday of each month at 11:00 AM.  This is a gathering for a catered lunch and a program. Reservation required by the Thursday prior to the Luncheon by 12 Noon.  (The meeting time/date is subject to change during certain holidays and summer months, so contact the center for details). (*fee) 
Ceramics Club:

Tuesdays from 10:00AM-12:00PM (Student must bring their own supplies.  No instruction is provided.)  

Line Dancing:Wednesdays at 9:00AM (donation requested) 
Songbirds:A choral group made up of members that perform for various functions in Hoover and surrounding areas. Typically practices and/or performances are held on Wednesdays (TIME TBA) 
Smart Moves:Every Thursday at 2:30 PM. Enjoy stretching followed by fun line dancing for avid line dancers (No fee because it is Grant funded, therefore individual must complete paperwork to participate.).  
Speakers:

Throughout each month there will be a variety of speakers.

Zumba Gold:Thursdays at 1:30 PM 
Pinochle:

1st & 3rd Mondays at 12:15 PM

Crochet Class: Thursdays at 3:30 PM.  Participants will need to bring their own supplies.  Class is led by a volunteer instructor.   
Hearts:2nd & 4th Mondays at 12:15 PM
Wii Games:

Members can enjoy playing Wii Games. Call for availability.

Palette Pals:1st and 3rd Fridays at 1:00 PM.  Painters will produce a completed painting withing a 3 hour time period.  No experience necessary.  (*fee) Reservation is required and date is subject to change.
Knit WitsMondays 9:30 AM - 12:00 Noon.  For true beginners or those wishing to brush up on your rusty skills enroll by calling 739-6700.  This class is graciously taught by volunteer, Francine Pearson. 
Book Discussion:2nd Wednesday of the month, please plan to join Pam Bainter from the Hoover Library from 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM. Be sure to check out the book at the Senior Center a few weeks prior to the discussion so you will be able to contribute to the group!  
Watercolor Club:Thursdays at 1:30PM .  Please supply own materials. No formal instruction provided.
Ballroom Lessons:Mondays at 1:00PM (*NEW DATE AND TIME)
Blood Pressure Checks: 2nd and 4th Mondays at 12:15 PM (dates sometimes vary)
Ping Pong:

Monday thru Friday when the Auditorium isn't in use.

HOOVER NEW HORIZONS Volunteers/Opportunities:

Express: Drive vehicles provided by the City of Hoover for transporting New Horizons members. On Tuesdays and Thursdays- doctor appointments and on Mondays and Wednesdays errands in Hoover only. (Example: beauty shop, grocery store, Galleria, etc.)
Historian:Compilation and maintenance of the history of the New Horizons organization.
Hospitality:  Prepare welcome materials for the New Horizons functions.
Kitchen:Setting up and serving catered meals for New Horizons luncheon.
Décor: Decorate for New Horizons luncheon meetings and other events.
Newsletter:Assisting in editing and mail-out of monthly newsletter.
Programs: Planning and getting speakers and entertainment for New Horizons luncheons.
Communications: Seeking recognition for New Horizons within the community.
Reservations: Work 2 hour shift in the Horizon's Office to record reservations for New Horizons activities.
Trip & Tours:Planning and overseeing group trips.
