There is fear in the heart of America’s citizens. They have over spent, they are heavily in debt, their homes are at risk and they are unsure if they will have a job tomorrow. How do we help them through this crisis?
This project is to help educate people on the need to save and spend wisely. Consumers are in need of financial literacy. The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) Consumer Education Foundation (NCEF), TD Ameritrade Institutional, and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine are teaming up to take this important message on the road.
During the year, Your Money Bus Tour will be going from border-to-border and coast-to-coast to deliver this important message. Fee-Only financial advisors will be in cities across the country to conduct free advice events and symposiums where consumers can learn what they need to do to start saving and get their financial life in order. The bus started in Washington, D.C and has been through New England and down the coast to Florida.
The bus will roll into Alabama and stop in the Metro Birmingham area on Feb. 5, 2009. The bus will park at the Hoover Library. Mayor Tony Petelos will welcome the bus to the great state of Alabama and Joe Borg, the Director of the Alabama Securities Commission will follow up with tips for the consumer. This kickoff will begin at 11:00 a.m. There will be Financial Tool Kits given to all attendees. People will have a chance to have a short one-on-one meeting with a NAPFA Register Financial Advisor to discuss any financial issues and concerns they have.
This is NOT a promotional event for NAPFA members. The NAPFA Consumer Education Foundation’s goal is to promote basic financial literacy. NAPFA members from across the state have volunteered their time in Birmingham to support this event.
