Permit Types

Below is a list of the types of permits required in the City of Hoover. For help determining which permit(s) apply to your project, please contact the Inspection Services Department at 205-444-7586.

Commercial Construction Permit$6.00 per $1,000 of the total contract amount;  If land disturbing activity is involved, an Erosion Control Permit ($400 Fee) is also required - see Bond Requirements and Information
Residential Construction Permit

New, single family home - $6.00 per $1,000 of the valuation of construction  plus $48.00 issuance fee & $1,500 base fee & $100 erosion fee.  Other fees may apply for sewer and for zoning fees depending on the location of construction.For work on an existing home - $6.00 per $1,000 of the valuation of construction plus $48.00. Minimum fee = $54.00.
 

Mechanical Permit $6.00 per $1,000.00 of job cost, plus $48.00 issuance fee.
Minimum fee =$54.00
Gas Permit $6.00 per $1,000.00 of job cost, plus $48.00 issuance fee.
Minimum fee = $54.00.
Plumbing Permit $6.00 per $1,000.00 of job cost, plus $48.00 issuance fee.
Minimum fee =$54.00.
Electrical Permit $6.00 per $1,000.00 of job cost, plus $48.00 issuance fee.
Minimum fee = $54.00
Street Cut Permit Fees: $5.00 (non-refundable), $200.00 bond (to be refunded upon approved inspection) see Bond Requirements and Information
Sign Permit $6.00 per $1,000 of cost of sign & installation, plus $48.00
issuance fee. Minimum fee = $54.00
Burn Permits Note: Burn Permits are issued by the City's Fire Department. Call (205) 444-7655 for more info.
Blasting Permits Note: Blasting Permits are issued by the City's Fire Department. Call (205) 444-7655 for more info.
Driveway PermitsDriveway Permits are issued by the City's Engineering Department. Generally, separate driveway permits are not issued, please contact us at 444-7586 for information concerning this type of permit.  If a driveway accesses a state, county, or federal highway, then appropriate approvals must be obtained.  In addition, if the application is for access to an U.S. highway, the Alabama Department of Transportation will be involved in the approval process.
