Zoning Process

The Zoning Process in Hoover

All land located in the City of Hoover falls into one of the zoning classifications listed below. Each classification has restrictions regarding development and use. In order to deviate from these restrictions, a zoning variance must be granted. The land owner may also request to have property rezoned. All cases are reviewed by the Planning & Zoning Committee and voted on by City Council. The Planning & Zoning Committee meets the second Monday of each month. In order for your case to be heard, you must be added to the agenda by calling the City Clerk's Office and submitting the required documents.

To determine the current zoning for your property or to submit a case to the Planning & Zoning Committee, please call the City Clerk's Office at (205) 444-7517. For information regarding zoning restrictions & use, please call a Plans Examiner in our Inspections Office at (205) 444-7649.
