Important Tax Information for City of Hoover Businesses (3/20/2020):
Effective immediately, the City of Hoover is waiving municipal sales tax late payment penalties both for small retail businesses, whose monthly retail sales during the previous calendar year averaged $62,500 or less, and taxpayers currently registered with the City as engaging in NAICS Sector 72 business activities, which includes restaurants and other food service providers. The City is also waiving municipal late payment penalties for lodgings taxes. Late payment penalties will be waived for these taxpayers through June 1, 2020. This relief does not waive or extend normal tax filing requirements. For businesses that have any questions, have them contact the Hoover Revenue Department at 205-444-7516. HOOVERCOVID Text Alerts - Hoover residents can now sign up to receive direct text message alerts about ongoing developments about the City of Hoover in regard to the COVID-19 Virus. To receive those messages, residents should text the words HOOVERCOVID to 888-777. They should receive two brief messages in response letting them know they have successfully signed up for the alerts. (Please note there may be a delay in the automatic response that we are working to resolve ASAP.)
The City of Hoover has launched a Business Resources Hotline for businesses located in the City that are affected by the COVID-19 crisis. The telephone number is (205) 739-7162. City of Hoover employees will operate the line Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. For more information, click here or visit the Information for Businesses section of this website.
Small businesses are encouraged to register for a webinar on Friday, March 20, at 9 a.m. where a panel of advisors will help businesses answer questions on how they can prepare and apply for an SBA Economic Injury Loan. An additional webinar will be scheduled for next week. Register Here
The Hoover Helpline is now officially activated. This is a humanitarian effort created by the City to help Hoover residents during the COVID-19 crisis. The Hoover Helpline will serve as a one-stop resource line in which Hoover residents can speak with a person and indicate what their needs are during this time. That Helpline representative will take their request, reach out to an agency that can help, find out the information needed and then relay that back to the caller. This service will assist residents in any area they may need help with that is a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
The number for the Hoover Helpline is: 205-444-7877. This line will be open from 9 am to 7 pm seven days a week including weekends. The Helpline is being manned by a small number of Hoover Library employees who are practicing safe social distancing while providing this service.
The City of Hoover is also asking that any business or organization that is providing a service to help residents during this time to please let us know. They can call the same Hoover Helpline number and indicate the help they are providing.

The City of Hoover understands that the following weeks will be difficult for many of our local businesses and employees. We encourage citizens to continue to support Hoover’s local businesses. Below are a few constructive ways to support our local and small businesses in this time.
- Buy gift cards or certificates: A little here and there can hold small businesses over
- Shop online: Check Facebook, Instagram and other social media outlets for business websites or stores
- Order takeout and/or use drive through and curbside pick-up options
- Tip generously
- If you are a business with employees working extended hours, consider bringing in meals from a Hoover restaurant.
