IMPORTANT UPDATE (3/17/2020):  

HOOVERCOVID Text Alerts - Hoover residents can now sign up to receive direct text message alerts about ongoing developments about the City of Hoover in regard to the COVID-19 Virus.  To receive those messages, residents should text the words HOOVERCOVID to 888-777.  They should receive two brief messages in response letting them know they have successfully signed up for the alerts. (Please note there may be a delay in the automatic response that we are working to resolve ASAP.)

Important Info for Small Businesses (3/17/2020):

The SBA needs the help of our small business community in order to help you. If you are a small business that has experienced economic injury due to COVID-19, the SBA needs you to fill out a Disaster Worksheet. Click here to complete the form. Resources for Businesses and Employers

The City of Hoover is working diligently to support and protect our community in a rapidly changing environment. The City is proactively taking steps in the best interests of our businesses.  We will continue to provide and communicate information on resources from Federal, State and regional partners to support your business.  This page will continue to update.  Please e-mail questions to development@hooveralabama.gov. 

Hoover Chamber of Commerce

The City of Hoover, Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce, and Hoover Restaurant Alliance ask that all local businesses and non-profits including churches that are offering expanded or adapted services to the public fill out a brief survey. We will compile a list of all the information for the public to have easy access to and disseminate on the City website, social media platforms, and local media.

State and Federal Resources for Businesses and Employers

Centers for Disease Control:  The CDC has a dedicated page to provide resources for businesses and employers.

Internal Revenue Service:  The IRS has established a special section focused on steps to help taxpayers, businesses and others affected by the coronavirus.

Small Business Administration:  The SBA has created guidance resources for businesses and employers to plan and respond to COVID-19.

Call to Action from the SBA’s Alabama District Office: 

In order for the State of Alabama to request Disaster Assistance from SBA due to COVID-19, an assessment of Small Business Owners who have experienced Economic Injury is needed. If you own a small business that has experienced Economic Injury, please download the Alabama Business Economic Injury Disaster Worksheet.  It is a fillable PDF Form (click the Enable All Features at top right). Once completed and signed, the form should be emailed to Rod Perkins at roderick.perkins@sba.gov. This is a necessary step to aid the State in applying for Disaster Assistance to help the Small Business Community and community as a whole. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Instructions and notes:
The worksheet is for the State of Alabama only – Small Businesses in Alabama impacted by COVID-19 (no other Disasters). In order for a Business Owner to apply for an SBA Disaster Loan, the State has to be approved for Disaster Assistance by SBA.

• Step 1 – Small Business Complete Assessment or Worksheet
• Step 2 – After completing the Assessment or worksheet, the Governor will request Disaster Assistance from SBA
• Once the State is approved by SBA, the Small Business can then apply for an SBA Disaster Loan
  • Apply online
  • Apply using Paper Form to be mailed

You may find it helpful to review the Economic Injury Disaster Loan Application Process document.  As noted in that document, are only four (4) States have been approved for Disaster Assistance as of the date of this post (March 17, 2020).

Alabama Department of Insurance:  The Alabama Department of Insurance has issued guidance to health insurance carriers responding to the COVID-19 virus.

Alabama Department of Labor:  The Department announced that Alabama workers not able to work due to COVID-19 will be eligible to file unemployment benefits.

The United Way of Central Alabama:  The United Way of Central Alabama has set up a COVID-19 Community Response.

How You Can Support Local Business

The City of Hoover understands that the following weeks will be difficult for many of our local businesses and employees. We encourage citizens to continue to support Hoover’s local businesses.  Below are a few constructive ways to support our local and small businesses in this time.

• Buy gift cards or certificates: A little here and there can hold small businesses over
• Shop online: Check Facebook, Instagram and other social media outlets for business websites or stores
• Order takeout and/or use drive through and curbside pick-up options
• Tip generously
• If you are a business with employees working extended hours, consider bringing in meals from a Hoover restaurant.
