[ARCHIVED] Moss Rock Preserve - 2019 Boulder Field Restoration Project

2019 marks the fourth phase of targeted restoration work in Moss Rock Preserve's most heavily visited space.  It's estimated that 10-15k people visit Moss Rock annually and there's no doubt most of those visitors make their way to and/or thru the MRP boulder field.  While this level of popularity has many positive points, years of heavy and random pedestrian use in any forested space is not without drawbacks.  To mitigate some of the effects of that use, Hoover Urban Forestry staff assisted Access Fund and American Conservation Experience crews in March with construction of a large, multi-tiered stone staircase and retaining wall structure in one of the boulder field's more heavily impacted sections.  The Access Fund's Conservation Team East pairing of Matt Landis and Annie Friesen along with an eight-person American Conservation Experience crew led by seasoned trail builder and Crew Leader, Corey Harrison, proved highly skilled and highly productive.  THIS REPORT details the Access Fund's three-week portion of the project.

Access Fund and American Conservation Experience work is becoming increasingly evident throughout the Moss Rock boulder field.  The City of Hoover is very grateful to both organizations for their exceptional service and we look forward to continuing these very productive partnerships.
